First of all, I would like to personally thank you for taking the time to visit our webpage. I hope that you have found it both informational and helpful in your quest for a martial arts program for you or your family.
I have been teaching this program for over 17 years (12 years as Marshall Arts for Kids) and I have literally taught thousands of kids in the local communities of Northern California. We also have classes in Southern California taught by a good friend of mine and great teacher Mike McPherson. I've been involved in martial arts training for decades (I don't like to give out the specific years as it ages me, but if you ask I will tell you). I currently hold a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a second degree black belt in Shotokon, and a first degree black belt in Hapkido. I've also trained for short periods of time in many other styles as I'm currently not seeking advancement in rank in any specific style. I would rather teach.
Here are some things to consider;
-
How long has the School been around (in these uncertain times, you never know) -
Who is the instructor, does he have a good relationship with his instructor? -
Is the School accredited (see below) -
How long does it take to earn a Black Belt (minimum of 5-6 years) -
Does the School have Financial Assistance? (very important) -
Do they hold tournaments? (we have held 30+ tournaments over the years)
Marshall Arts for Kids is an accredited martial arts school, meaning we have the backing of the United Tae Kwon Do Association (UTA, the same entity involved with the Olympics)). Now you're probably asking so what? Well what this means to you, and the students, is that your rank is recognized on the national level. You would not attend a College or University if the degree it was going to grant you after four or more years of hard work is not valid anywhere or only at the University itself. The more places that recognize your degree the better and not only recognize but also respect and look highly upon your degree the better. The same holds true for martial arts schools. You may start off thinking that you only want to try it out but after 6 months or so you realize it you love it and want to continue and pursue the higher ranks. If the school or club is “self accredited” and does not belong to any recognized organization you will have a hard time if you ever want to compete, move schools, or start up your own school.
